Meri Kirihimete from WISANZ

Kia ora koutou,

Well, what a year 2021 has been! It’s not been without challenges but a lot of good things have happened too. And we definitely count the launch of WISANZ during World Space Week on the list of “good things” for 2021! We are not even 3 months old, and yet we have achieved so much already – with so much more to come!

We have been building a community of over 170 passionate space wāhine in Aotearoa, including women who work in the space sector, those who work elsewhere but are interested in working in space, and students with space career ambitions.

Only a few weeks ago we held our very first event (virtually) – in partnership with Auckland Unlimited and the New Zealand Space Agency - to showcase some of the impressive mahi women are already doing in the New Zealand space sector, and to open some interesting discussions on New Zealand’s future as a space nation. If you missed the event, or just want to relive the experience, we have included our key takeaways from the event below.

And just this week – with thanks to ChristchurchNZ - we have awarded two of our student WISANZ members a ticket to head along to the inaugural New Zealand Aerospace Summit in Christchurch in February 2022. Stay tuned next year for more information about the Summit.

We wish you all a very relaxing holiday break with friends and whānau in the beautiful Aotearoa sunshine. We can’t wait for all the exciting space engagements and activities we’ll share with you all in 2022!

Meri Kirihimete and happy holidays!
